please explain for me why
can't just the word "opened" in (B) and (C) be viewed as intransitive verb and so it is parallel to "was rebuilt" ?
ashish-mohan Wrote:D says: First opened in 1892, then rebuilt in 1900, the federal immigration station on Ellis Island processed nearly three quarters of all immigrants entering the United States in the first quarter of the twentieth century
I recollect reading somewhere that it is not preferable on GMAT to have such "consecutive modifiers:
a) First opened in 1892
b) then rebuilt in 1900
In light of this sentence, it looks like my understanding is not correct. Can an instructor please confirm.
As per my understanding, it should have been: "First opened in 1892 and then rebuilt in 1900".

Thanks in advance.
RonPurewal Wrote:that is a correct understanding. nicely done.
by the way, please try not to underline so many things; it's much harder to read and understand a post with so many (seemingly random) words in bold underline.
thanks.
