Suggestion request..

by nathanalgren07 Tue Dec 28, 2010 2:47 pm

Hello,

I want to apply MSc Finance and related programs as a full-time student, preferably in the UK, the US or the Netherlands. I have an Integrated BS&MS degree (graduated August 2010) in Teaching Mathematics from the best university of Turkey, called Bogazici University. My GPA is 2.43 and it is pretty low, but it is very hard to even graduate the program, only 5 of 30 people managed to graduate and the best GPA is 3.13 in the program. So when I see the requirements like 3.5/4 for some masters, I am like "are you kidding me??"..

Anyway, I scored a 710 (Q50 and V36) from the GMAT yesterday and my TOEFL is 103 (all sections over 24).. I currently work for Finansbank of National Bank of Greece as an assistant supervisor.

What universities should I apply?

I am thinking of Duisenberg School of Finance, but what would be my chance for the 1st-2nd tier schools?

Thank you very much, please let me know if you need more information.

Hi Nathanal,

Thanks for writing in. Unfortunately my focus is only on MBA programs so I cannot make a recommendation on which MSc programs to apply to.

Sorry I can't be of more help, good luck!

Alright, thank you. What about MBAs then? I didn't think I would stand a chance, given that I will have only 1 year full-time work experience, but maybe you can have some suggestions.

Traditionally MBA programs want to see a few years of your work experience but this doesn't preclude you necessarily. Your GMAT is certainly high enough for well-respected programs (sorry I don't know much about programs in the Netherlands) but typically that score would be competitive in the U.S. top-25. Of course, you'll need to elaborate why you are seeking an MBA and why it is worthwhile to pursue with limited work experience, rather than waiting another 2-3 years.

Good luck!
