Sound

by shrikantbhaiya Wed Dec 01, 2010 12:40 am

Sound can travel through water for enormous
distances, prevented from diSSipating Its acoustic
energy as a result of
boundaries In the ocean created
by water layers of different temperatures and
densities.
(A) prevented from dissipating Its acoustic energy
as a result of
(8) prevented from having Its acoustic energy
dissipated by
(C) Its acoustic energy prevented from dissipating by
(D) Its acoustic energy prevented from being
dissipated as a result of
(E) preventing Its acoustic energy from dissipating by

The Correct option according to book is "C". However I selected choice "C" as looser because "Comma can not join two complete sentences i.e. main clauses".

Please let me know where I am going wrong.

Thanks for providing the link. It has given me new insight.

Does these type of tricky questions come often when you are doing good at GMAT or these kinds are really exceptions.

it's hard to answer that in general -- SC is a department in which the whole idea of "tricky" just depends on what you've seen and what you haven't. for someone who's seen the kinds of grammatical structures that appear in this problem, it isn't really "tricky"; for someone who hasn't, it is.

OK thanks.

So don't you think this one is tricky.

I thought its tricky as it can misguide many. There are some errors which are very general and most who are preparing will know them but I think even after your preparation you can get some of the questions which you can not solve correctly.

Anyways thanks for your response and I do agree with you.

Every good GMAT question is tricky. Your job is to recognize the tricks and learn how to deal with them so you don't fall for the tricks on the real test..
