Sentence correction questions

by Eddie Gutia Mon Nov 12, 2012 12:37 am

I have a couple of questions as below.

1) We were dismayed to learn that our neighbors were untidy, disagreeable and they were uninterested to make new friends.
MGMAT Solution: We were dismayed to learn that our neighbors were untidy, disagreeable, and uninterested in making new friends.
My Question: Why isn't it "to make" and "making" instead?

2) There is an expectation of her being appointed as a chairperson.
MGMAT Solution: It is expected that she will be appointed chairperson.
My Question: Why is the original sentence wrong. Isn't it appointed as chairperson?

3) "If you wish to be included" is active voice or passive voice? Can you please explain?

4) MGMAT Solution: Zoe and Elizabeth are coming over after Zoe finishes Work.
My Question: Why not "after finishing work"

5) If you have numbness in your arms, it might be a sign of carpal tunnel syndrome.
My Question: Manhattan Gmat explains that "might be" is correct in the above sentence because it is a prediction. How did you come to a conclusion that it is a prediction. I would say that this is a general fact and hence "might be" should be replaced with "is"

none of these appear to be questions from the GMAT Prep software. please post your questions in the correct forum, and when you do be sure to include references to where you found the questions..
