Sentence Correction - Comparisons

by asmitajolly Wed Aug 20, 2014 2:32 pm

Dear ManhattanGMAT staff,

Please solve the following question.

It is as difficult to prevent crimes against property as those that are against a person.
(A) those that are against a
(B) those against a
(C) it is against a
(D) preventing those against a
(E) it is to prevent those against a

I saw this question in one of the local test series mock papers, hence the source is not completely reliable. Would be really if you can tell me your methodology in solving such questions.

The answer provided is E, though I am not too sure if it's the correct one. ( I prefer B)

Thank You!!

• This folder is the wrong place for questions from any source other than the GMAT Prep free software.

• You said—yourself!—that "the source is not completely reliable".
This means that you shouldn't use the source in the first place.
The GMAT tests very few of the potential problems that can occur in an English sentence—and tests those relatively few problems in VERY specific ways. For every 1 thing that GMAT SC sentences do, there are 100 things that they don't do, and 100 more things that they don't do in certain ways.
If you use unreliable third-party sources, you're much more likely to "learn" things that are actually wrong than you are to learn valuable lessons.

We answer questions within each folder from oldest to newest. If you "bump" your post like this, then you're just making it the newest post again. I.e., back to last place in the queue.
