Seeking advice

by darshan_writeto Thu Oct 13, 2011 3:30 am

Hi,
I am a graduate mechanical engineer from India from a Tier I University. I have 7+ years of experience in Automobile/Heavy machinery industry in Product/Process Design & development. I have worked in OEMs as well as Tier I suppliers (MNC and native) without any international experience as yet.
I am in early 30s and in a lead engineer role since last 4 years. I seek a business degree to advance my career to top positions in a similar field (Operation/Supply chain/Engineering etc).
I have low GPAs and little extra curricular activities and seek advice on what my target score should be on the GMAT.
Would it be worthwhile to attempt GMAT and seek admissions in Top Indian and US schools?
Thanks in advance.

Regards,
D.

HI D,

Thanks for writing in. Although you provide limited information I do spot a few potential issues with your profile. For one you are in heavily represented field of Indian engineers. Plus you cite a low GPA and low extracurricualrs. Even with a very high GMAT you are still going to face an uphill battle at a top school. Certainly you should aim for the best score you can, but I would advise you to wait until that score comes in and the evaluate which schools you want to pursue.

Best of luck,

Daniel Richards
