Re: |x-2|-|x-3|=|x-5| Extremely Difficult absolute question

Very difficult only if you watch at this from the wrong way. I approached as simple minded way.. sometimes it is the quickiest way to find a solution and so, for paced Exams, also one of the right solution. Start with brute force and always put an eye on the answers: 1step) we have 4 ranges to analy...

Re: If k is a positive integer and the tens digit of k+5 is 4

It is uninfluent if we have 2 or more digit numbers in the evaluation of the tenth digit.
86+4=90 => digit number is 9 not 4
if we suppose the number to be 136+4= 140 the things go ahead the same way than in the case of 1 digit number.

Have I fallen a wire of your thoughts?

Re: gmat prep - how do i solve this

think it easy: 1) x-y=1/2 .. Positive => x>y since can be: (+,+) or (+,-) or (-,-) : Insuff 2) x/y>1 since x/y>0 since (x,y) have to have the same sign: (-,-) or (+,+) : Insuff Let's see what we could earn putting together: 2) finding the conditions of existence of the second expression ...

Re: If n is a positive interger less than 200 and 14n/60

Hi all.

the simplified denominator is 30 hence n have to be multiple of 30 : this involve that the prime factor are at least 2,3,5 . The next prime could be 7 but 30*7 is 210>200 so the only prime admitted by the question is the triplet 2,3,5 so Three is the right answer.

Re: # Tax dispute-Both sides Vs Each side : ETS paper Q.

Hi AndreaDB, could you please elaborate on "case is inverse acting"? thank you. I meant F go against G and G go against F. when you use Both I mean that together do someting: A means: F and G together work against H , mentioned as "the other" and implied by the form of the sente...

Re: |x-2|-|x-3|=|x-5| Extremely Difficult absolute question

Not sure if the Answer is C. C falls apart when we take x=5 => |5-2| - |5-3| != |5-5| The answer is A and I have a very convoluted way of solving the problem. set-1: |x-2| => x > -2 and x > 2 => x belongs to (-infinity, -2) or (2, infinity) set-2: |x-3| => x belongs to (-infinity,...

Re: gmat prep - how do i solve this

My approach as following : 1. x - y = 1/2 => x = y + 1/2. Y can be either positive or negative, therefore X can be + or - number. --- Not sufficient 2. x/y > 1 implies that X and Y has to be of same sign, either both positive or both negative. -- not sufficient Combining (1) and (2), infact s...
