Score of 680

by biswajit.majumder Fri May 14, 2010 7:52 am

I did a self-study (of the official guide 12th edition only) for about a month and appeared in GMAT yesterday. The score came out to be 680 (Quant-49, Verbal-34). First I imagine that the verbal is very poor. Also that the score of 680 is below the psychological level of 700.

I did engineering and I had a marks of 75 to 80% in the graduation and post-graduation. I have been working in an IT company for last 12 years, some of it in managerial positions. Can somebody suggest whether I have hope of getting admissions into premier indian institutes such as 'Indian Institute of Management' or 'Indian School of Business'? For me London School of business is a preferance as well.

Can somebody please advise on the score and possibilities. I am completely new to GMAT arena and hence any reasonable advice will help.

The GMAT is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to MBA admissions. If you think you can achieve a higher score, then you should consider retaking the exam to achieve a more balanced score. The low verbal score can raise a red flag about your communication skills. However, if you do not think you can do better (i.e. if you're a poor test taker) and the rest of your profile is strong (professional/community leadership and undergraduate grades), then your GMAT will be your only weakness. You can strive to show that you have strong communication skills via well written essays and examples of projects/experiences that require strong communication skills.

Best of luck!
