Score Flip-Flop

by mcgovernr1 Sat May 12, 2012 6:01 pm

So I just finished my 2nd GMAT. I scored the same both times (660); however, my verbal and quant scores completely flip-flopped. In general how do admission committees view this kind of a thing? Should I be concerned?

Here's the break-down:
Both scores: 660
First time: Q42 V40
Second time: Q48 V33

I should note that I'm most-likely only applying to part-time programs (NYU, UNC Online, Indiana Online, maybe Fordham). NYU is my top choice, and from the looks of things, I'm roughly at their median score. But I want to make sure that my flip-flopping won't ruin my chances for admission. Obviously there are a bunch of other factors that weigh in to the admission committee's decision, but I want to make sure that, all other things equal, I'm in a good spot (I don't feel like re-taking this test, studying the new IR section, etc.).

Thanks for any feedback you can provide!

Hi! Your second score is the better one because your quant is so much stronger. The AdCom will view this as you having strong quant ability - which is what you want the GMAT to convey. I don't think this score will hurt your chances of getting into the schools that you are applying. Even NYU, which is the most competitive of the schools on your list, has an median GMAT score of 660 - so you are right in the competitive mix for that part-time program.

Best of luck,
