Hi there,
Hmmm, in my 10+ years in test prep and admissions (with Kaplan & mbaMission) and work with admissions officers, I can't say that I've heard of a school that prefers higher verbal scores on the GMAT vs Quant... though I've certainly heard that many schools do appreciate high verbal scores as well, as verbal/communication skills are so important in the business world, and in b-school itself! Fairly decent scores on both sides is the most ideal scenario. And if a score was skewed extremely towards verbal with a very low quant, some schools see a red flag as b-school IS inherently quantitative in nature.... they will at least look for evidence of quant ability in other places-- your coursework, in your job, other classes taken, etc. It could be a reason for rejection at the most competitive and/or quant-focused programs; or some may require that you take specific quantitative courses (or even retake the GMAT) before beginning the program.
If I hear of specific schools that were referred to in the blog post I can update, but to look at the big picture-- how would this affect you-- i.e. you want to do as well as you can on all parts of the exam, no matter what, correct? ;) Good luck on the process!!
