Retake with 720 (Q50, V37, IR8)

by AnkitA991 Sat Jul 12, 2014 3:06 pm

First of all I would love to thank the faculty at Manhattan, especially Ron and Stacey, for providing brilliant answers to questions posted on these forums. I had given my GMAT exam solely on the basis of self study so these forums played a very important role in the preparation :)

I got 710 and 750 in the GMAT Preps, and 650 in the free Manhattan test. When I finally gave the test I got a 720 (Q50, V37, IR8). Now the question is: is this score enough to apply to top B-schools (considering only the GMAT criteria). Can I tick of the GMAT requirement with such scores and focus on building my profile further? Or should I give the exam again for a better Verbal score?

I haven't received my essay score, but I guess it would be good enough :)

Yes, you can tick off the GMAT box. Great job!

You can talk to an admissions consultant if you want - that's what I normally recommend to anyone who asks me a similar question - but I can say unequivocally, in your case, that all of your scores are great. (That's no guarantee of admission, of course. GMAT scores are only one part of the package. But so far, very good!)

Good luck - let us know how it goes!

Hi Stacey,
Thanks for the reply. I am a fresh graduate and I am joining Oracle as a Software developer. I know this might be the wrong platform, but does work experience at IT companies contribute to work experience which is considered for MBA? If not then what kind of responsibilities should I undertake there in the job?

I had received mixed reviews hence would I require your view :)

I would ask an admissions consultant, but as far as I understand, any full-time work experience counts as work experience. :)

In general, you do want to show leadership qualities - so look for opportunities to take on additional responsibilities. Once you've been there for a year, offer to show new hires the ropes. Jump in and be a team player so that you're chosen for special assignments. And so on. Basically, do a great job at your job!
