Retake a 710?

by gabe.rodrigues Sat Mar 14, 2009 7:14 pm

Please let me know your thoughts:

Originally from Brazil
Background: econ major/ math minor (3.8 gpa)
phi beta kappa
4 year of NCAA swimming
marketing consulting 2 years/ ibanking 2 years and counting

710 GMAT 43 math and 45 verbal

Math is (almost) always by far the strongest. No idea how it flipped and the verbal was great while the math was ok. Question is, is the math a concern? would that keep me from getting in? How would that impact my chances if at all? or is the 3-digit number all they really care?

Top choices:
harvard
chicago
wharton
kellog

Many thanks.

Thank you for your question.

Your overall score is very solid. You may have heard that schools generally like to see at least 80% in each of the Verbal and Quantitative sections. While this is generally a rule, there are certainly exceptions. In your case, the school will likely see your strong academic performance in quantitative fields and understand that you can manage the rigors of a heavily quantitative curriculum. All of that written, if you feel that you have potential to push your quant score even higher and you have the time to write the test, you might consider it. If you have competing obligations, then you should not lose any sleep over your score, which, again, is quite strong.

Sincerely,
