Resetting MGMAT Practice Tests

by Guest Wed Oct 08, 2008 6:12 pm

I took all six MGMAT practice tests and then reset them. After resetting them, I took a MGMAT practice test on Saturday and scored a 640 and I took another MGMAT practice test yesterday and scored a 700. On yesterday's test I probably had a total of 6 or 7 repeats, some of which I answered correctly on Saturday's test.

On both tests I scored significantly better than I did a month ago when I last took a MGMAT test. Over that month I dedicated myseld to studying and I felt like I had improved significantly. However, I just want to make sure that I am actually doing better and that the higher scores aren't just because the reset tests focus on the higher difficulty problems. So, basically I am asking if the reset tests are essentially the exact same as the first 6 tests that I took.

Thank you.

Hi there-

The short answer to your question is no, you'll never take the same test twice.

The long answer is to explain just how our CATs work. There's a question bank of 1200+ questions. Every time you take one of our CATs, your questions are pulled from this bank. During your first set of 6 tests, the computer will remember which questions out of the bank you've already seen. When you decide to reset the question bank, the computer forgets which questions you saw in that first group of 6. The tests will still be made up of randomly chosen questions that follow the adaptive structure (ie. if you answer a question right, you get a harder question. If you answer the question wrong, you get an easier question). As questions repeat, it is likely that your score will be slightly inflated.

Hopefully that clears things up. Let me know if you have any other questions!
