Hi, I'm a Chinese / Taiwanese American female and wondering if it's to my detriment to report my racial and ethnic background in applications.

Hi there,
Technically it should not hurt you. If you are talking about the optional sections where they ask about race/ethnicity, that is just used for statistical purposes. It's fine to check the box and it's also fine not to - whatever your preference!
