regional schools?

by guest Thu Oct 16, 2008 4:20 pm

UT-Austin
UNC-Kenan-Flagler
USC-Marshall
Duke-Fuqua

Are the above schools substantially behind schools like Haas and Anderson? Should Fuqua not be classified as a regional school? I heard someone comment that UT Austin or UNC- KF are good school if I plan to stay in that area after getting my MBA. Is that really true? Will UT Austin carry no weight in the Northeast or the Bay Area? What about Duke? Mainly for Southeast or does it have any value anywher else?

Duke is generally considered a top-16 school, who attract recruiters from around the country.

As for UT-Austin, UNC and USC - they are excellent regional schools, attracting recruiters mostly from around the region. That's what "pull" really means - it's not that you can't get a job in NYC with a UT degree - it's just that if you are targeting companies based outside of Texas, you will likely have to do a lot more of your own independent legwork and secure interviews, job leads, etc. on your own.

But as you probably know as soon as you walk into an interview, it's not the brand on your resume, but all about you the individual.
