Regarding Yellow pad technique

by SESHANV73 Tue Apr 18, 2023 10:59 am

Hi,

I am a big fan of the Yellow pad technique and it really helps me to keep track of my timing in each section.

My query is :

On the GMAT, when do I get to set up my scratch pad. Do I need to do that after each of my sections starts (in which case, i will be losing some time from each section) or am I allowed to set it up before each section starts.

Hope I could get my question across clearly. Look forward to the experts inputs on this as it will really help me plan my approach on the test better.

Thanks in advance!!

Great question!

At the beginning of each test section, there is a 30-second "instructions" screen—that you don't actually need to read, because you already know what it's telling you (assuming you've ever taken a practice test :D ).

So you can use that 30-second period to set up your yellow pad. That should be more than enough time for both Verbal and IR. It may or may not be enough time for Quant, but even if you need another 20 seconds to finish setting up Q, that's ok. 20 seconds isn't going to mess up your section.

Good luck!
