Regarding GMAT

by bhavya.7 Tue Aug 14, 2012 4:03 pm

Hi,
I have done Computer Engineering from Delhi, India and currently working for Infosys. My work experience is 2 Years and it will be around 2.5 years before joining B School in 2013 Fall.
GMAT Score:
Aggr - 650

I had scored 75% in 12th and 88% in 10th (both in CBSE).
In college I had an aggr. percentage of 75.

I have a good profile in extra co curricular activities in school, college and in Infosys.

I want to do MBA in Operations Management. That's the best I can think of right now. In case you have some good available options in which I can do my MBA, please suggest those as well.

Please provide me the details of some good B schools where I can apply.
I think I am suitable for end list of Tier 1 and upper list of colleges of Tier 2.
Please provide me names of some US B schools where I can apply and stand a chance.

Thanks
Abhinav

Hi Abhinav,

I think you are aiming for the correct tier of schools. It's somewhat arbitrary for me to present you with a list as I am not sure what exactly you are searching for in an MBA program (culture, location, curriculum, teaching styles, class size, etc... these are all important things to consider!). That said, you could look at schools like:

Pittsburg
Tulane
George Washington
Texas McCombs
Penn State

This business week ranking might help - you can sort by operations ranking and at least get a good starting point. Hope it helps! http://www.businessweek.com/interactive ... _2010.html

Cheers,
Mili

Hi Mr. Mili,
Thanks for your suggestion.
But could you please tell me whether this experience is enough to go for MBA and what are my chances of getting scholarship if any?

And to be honest I don't have much idea about the things you mentioned( culture, size, etc).
So please better guide from where I can find the information!
Thanks,
Abhinav

Hi Abhinav -

2.5 years work experience is quite early to apply to business school - most candidates have 3-5 years work experience, which allows ample time to show career progression, leadership, etc. I do worry that with such little experience, it may be premature to apply. With more time, you can improve your professional profile as well as your extracurricular and community leadership experience. That said, it's not impossible to get in with slightly less experience, especially at some of the schools we discussed.

Scholarship is probably going to be tough as I don't see any exceptional merits in your profile... Difficult to say - you'll have to research scholarship opportunities at each school respectively.

You can find all the information I mentioned on each school's website, in ranking lists, and by attending info sessions for various schools. Best of luck!
