Regarding application for colleges.

by manusharma18 Tue Nov 09, 2010 12:43 am

Hi..
I gave the exam on 8th November '10 and just scored 580
QA-48
VA-22

Please evaluate my profile as to where can i apply with this score,if i can?

I am working in the software industry since last two years and if i will be going to join any college next year i will be completing 3 years of work-ex.As of now i am working as a Module Lead.

I have decent academics and have been working in a non-government organisation since last 2 years helping the poor people and animals in their upliftment.

Please suggest me as to i stand a chance to get admitted in which all colleges?

Hi manusharma,

Thanks for writing in. From the little I know of your experience and goals, combined with your GMATs, I suggest looking at the traditional Tier 2 schools on most ranking sites. If you want to aim higher you may want to retake the GMATs and focus on Verbal. Schools like to see balance around your score, which currently leans very heavy toward the Quant side.

Hope this is helpful!

Thanks for the reply.I am also thinking the same to scale my verbal score. But actually i am not getting the way as to how to improve my score..I have finished Manhattan sentence correction,KAplan verbal workbook,Kaplan 800 and when i was giving the manhattan tests i was getting just marks around 33 in verbal and in the real exam i ended up with mere 22 marks. Please guide me as to how to increase my verbal score.I really need to increase that..By the way how do you rate my quant score?I got 48 in quant...

Please give me the path to be followed to increase the Verbal marks.I shall be highly obliged.

Hi again,

First, a 48 quant is a very good score. I believe it puts you right above the 80 percentile mark, and there's really no need for you to fret about that aspect, since I believe your area for concern needs to be your verbal score.

While I am not a GMAT instructor and there is no cure-all for increasing verbal, my advice is practice practice practice. Read as many sample questions as you can get your hands on and make sure you understand why the answer is what it is. Then read as many English magazines and books as you can. Unlike quant, there are no formulas to the verbal questions -- rather it is recognizing patterns and language rules, which takes time to develop.

Good luck!
