I am gaurav from India. After graduation i have worked in family owned business, a manufacturing firm. During the short period of 2 years in business i fulfilled a wide range of responsibilities.

My long-term career goal is to run the family business and lead its turnaround by reshaping its operations and strategy. After my MBA i want to work in the field of consultancy in order to gain some experience in devising strategy for a multitude of "challenged" firms.

My Extracurricular:-
I am a member of mechanical engineering society of my college. In college i have organized the tech fest of our institute in 2005.

Under the membership of a social community i am active in providing free education to poor, distributing medicines in rural areas........

During weekends i serve the association for the welfare of persons with a mental handicap.

Academics:-
I have done mechanical engineering from one of the top 10 institutes of INDIA.
GPA 7.65/10
GMAT: 680 (v34 (69%), q49 (88%))

Can you suggest me some b-schools where my application can be competitive with such low verbal score (below 70%) and having an experience of just 30 months, keeping in view that i want to go to strategic consultancy post MBA1C

Thank you for your post.

I don’t think that your "low" verbal score will keep you out of an MBA program - it is not that low. If you can credibly market your family business story and prove that both you and the business have potential, there should be a school in the top-15 that will take a chance on you. In fact, during a down economy, the schools are interested in "sure things" with respect to internationals. Your story about transitioning to consulting may in fact be a more difficult sell than an immediate return to a potentially successful family business in an emerging market -- just a thought. I would consider schools like Darden and Michigan, solid general management schools.

Is consulting really what you want to do or is this something you feel you have to "sell"?

Sincerely,
Jeremy Shinewald
