Recomender Recommendations

by mahardy Tue Nov 17, 2009 12:52 pm

Hello,

I have one of my recommenders locked in, but I'm having issues choosing my final recommender.

I graduated college in 2007 and worked for 14 months before being laid off. I have not been employed since November 2008. The first recommender is a former manager from that job. My options for the second slot include my other manager from that job or an administrator from college. I was very involved in college, and I worked with this administrator extensively for all 4 years before graduating. My involvement in college is a big part of my application, and I feel that he can provide a different perspective from my other recommender. However, I am concerned that the time gap may be a serious negative.

Is there a clear cut choice here?

Hello,

Thanks for your inquiry. I think that, barring another good option, the administrator you worked with in college is the clear choice. If you have been involved with a community activity and can have someone there write a recommendation on your behalf, that is another option. This person would have to be someone who knows you well and can write about your impact on the organization and your skills.

As I mentioned earlier, if that is not an option, I think that the administrator is the best option.

Sincerely,

Akiba Smith-Francis
