Realistic goals

by mm110 Fri May 11, 2012 11:13 am

Hi - recently took my GMAT again. After rushing into it the first time (640), got a 700 (6 AWA) on the screws this time. Looking to apply in the Fall of 2012.

3.1 undergrad GPA from Ivy League School with tons of extra curricular activities, unique experiences outside of work, 4 years work experience in finance - overall think I'm a very well rounded candidate.

Know GPA and GMAT are on the low side. If my dream school is Haas, is taking the GMAT for a 3rd time to try and bump my score look bad? Just looking at the numbers am I completely unrealistic in thinking I can get in?

Hi! Now that your score is at 700, I think you can be a viable candidate for Haas. If you'd like to give yourself one last chance to bump it up, go for it. It does not hurt to take it one more time (most schools look at your best score). Yes, your GPA is on the lower side, so you might want to look to see if you did poorly at any point of college and then consider writing an optional essay to explain why. But remember that the AdComs will look at you holistically - they want to see great work experience and career growth, strong extra-curriculars and outstanding recommendations.

Best of luck,
