Questions Regarding SC Grammar

by gmatwork Sat Jul 23, 2011 3:46 pm

Hi,

I have a few questions -

a) Despite, Although, Though, However - Can anyone please explain me the difference between these terms?

I have notice a couple questions in which the construct is something like -

Despite protests from companies, the government passed the bill.

" Despite protests from companies" - Is this subordinate clause or modifier?

Is the word despite a coordinating conjunction (like but, and, for, etc) ?

Please explain the rules for using despite?

b) Usage of "while"

When do we use "while"?

c) Can the words and & so be used together? (like "and so")

eg. He did not have money to buy the tickets and so he could not watch the movie.

Please help.

Thanks!

hi -- this is the wrong folder for this question; please post it in the general verbal folder. thank you. (this thread will be locked.)

also, if you are getting these sentences from gmat problems, then the forum rules stipulate that you must post the entire problem, along with its answer choices, as a reference.
