Question about information/admissions events

by casey.chopek Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:22 pm

Hello,

I am registered to attend some information events, the first one being on 8/1. The one on 8/1 is supposed to be an information session, with no interviews being conducted.

I am curious if I will be evaluated at all. I'm sure I'll meet some adcom members and will want to avoid looking like a total moron, but is it ok to go into these sessions without preparing extensively? I plan on bringing some questions, but that's about it at this point.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

You don't have to worry about the admissions committee tracking your every move. However, you should see this as a great opportunity to make a positive impression on everyone you meet (including support staff). You just never know if someone may remember something you said or did....so positive impressions are best!

I recommend that you put some thought into "your story". If you are questioned by a member of the admissions committee about your career goals, you should be prepared to give a cohesive answer. "I'm not sure", won't suffice. I also recommend that you have a solid grip on the school's offerings and culture in order to have an intelligent conversation with a student, alumnus or admissions committee member.

You don't have to overdo it....but do invest a little bit of time to ensure you are well informed.

Best of luck!
