Quantity nouns

by FaysalT485 Sat Nov 03, 2018 9:55 am

Hi instructors,

i struggle on CR when words like "some", "many", "most" come around because i am not sure what each one covers in terms of range

can u help, i have been advised to consider these (on a scale of 1 to 100)

Most / Majority / tend / usually = 51-100
Several / Many = 2-100
Some = 1-100
None = 0
All = 100

I agree with your definitions, although 'several' is generally considered to be more than 2. Also, 'many' would usually mean more than 2, and is heavily dependent on context. That's really the problem with some quantity words - they depend on context as language isn't as precise as numbers. Have you got any example of a problem that caught you out?
