Quantitative Courses

by kschrinsky Mon Jul 13, 2009 3:38 pm

I have a lopsided GMAT score (63%Q, 92%V, 680 total) and in preparation for the upcoming admissions cycle I took two classes to help improve my candidacy on that front - Financial Accounting and Statistics for Management. In the stats class I received an A, but in the Accounting class I was disappointed to find out today that I received a B+. This class was taken during my busiest season at work, but I'm sure that's not really any excuse to the admissions committees.

How much can the B+ help or hurt me? I was really expecting an A or A- and am concerned that the lower grade could cause even more doubt about my quant abilities - exactly the opposite of what the classes were intended to do. Should I be worried? Also, is there anything I should put in an additional essay about the grade that would help my cause?

My target schools are NYU, Dartmouth, Cornell, Michigan, Yale, and Columbia.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated! Thanks!

I'm sorry you didn't earn the grade that you wanted, but I do think the B+ is still respectable. Anything less might be questionable. I don't think the B+ will do any major harm, and I think it's great that you got the A in the Finance course.

As for the optional essay, I don't think you need to address this.
