Pursuing MBA straight out of Undergrad?

by Rkg08 Mon Feb 07, 2011 12:55 am

I am currently in my junior year of undergrad and wondering about trying to enter MBA School straight from college without actual work experience. I have had summer internship experience while I have been in college.
Finance Major along with a certificate of Markets and Institutions
Overall GPA 3.72/4.0 Major GPA 3.96/4.0

I am studying for the GMAT now with Manhattan GMAT; my score most likely will end up around the 660-680 range with a heavier weight towards quant.
I am interested in attending a Top Finance MBA Program.
I know most top MBA schools want work experience but some schools websites mention that they accept a small percent of kids straight out of undergrad. (Chicago-Booth)
I am seeking any advice on the matter regarding GMAT scores needed, structuring essays, application advice etc......

Thank You
Robert

Hi Robert,

Thanks for writing in. More schools are accepting students straight out of college, or with just 1 year of experience, and HBS is often cited as an example of that. But the overall percentage is still quite low. Your college GPA appears strong, but I would suggest working to raise your GMAT score if you are looking for top-tier Finance programs. In regards to your essay, you are going to have to prove why it is a good idea for you to pursue an MBA now, rather than working in the field for a few years and then returning to get your MBA then.

Good luck!
Best of luck,

Daniel Richards
