Profile Request Evaluation

by john_80a Thu Nov 12, 2009 12:18 am

Hi mbamission, could you evaluate my candidacy?

Age: 29
Gender: Female
Nationality: Malaysian

Education:
B.Sc in Finance and Economics (GPA: 3.7/4)
CFA charterholder

Gmat scores: 740 (M 87%, V 95%), AWA 5.5

Work Experience:
Presently in middle office function in top IB in NY
Relationship management (client facing role) in top Asset management firm for 5 years

Extra-curricular activities:
Mentor in a non profit organization that helps international immigrants/refugees in finding jobs in the US

My target school is Insead as I would like to return to Malaysia to work due to personal reasons. Having worked in financial institutions for the last 9 years, I have come to realize that I do not have the interest and would like to follow a different direction. I would like to pursue a career in corporate strategy or corporate finance.

I am concerned because I plan to apply for the Sept 2010 intake and since I'm changing industries and would probably be considered a "career changer". Do you think that I should apply for the Insead Jan 2011 intake so that I can take advantage of the internship opportunity, even though I would prefer to start as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. Many applicants to full time MBA programs are career switchers, so I do not think that it’s necessary for you to wait until 2011 to apply in order to do an internship that "proves" your interest in the career you want to transition to. Of course you should explain where your interest in either corporate strategy or corporate finance comes from. If you are otherwise prepared, I would encourage you to apply for entrance in 2010.

Sincerely,

Akiba Smith-Francis
