Profile evaluation

by ilmari.seppa Sat Aug 29, 2009 5:30 am

Hello,

I'm thinking about applying to HBS, Stanford and INSEAD. I was hoping you could help me assess my profile regarding these schools.

- GMAT 640 (one day studying, going to do it again, aiming to 680-700 with little study time)
- IELTS 8 (native Finnish)
- Very good academic marks, M.Sc (Economics)
- 30 years old
- 7 year work experience (entrepreneur / director --> manage to grew company from 3 employees to 40, IT sector)
- Extracurricular activities: politics, I currently hold two board memberships in my home town.
- Half year international experience working in marketing in central Europe
- Two other languages besides Finnish and English with skill level from basic to decent.

What do you think, do I have a chance in the schools mentioned? What (minimum) mark you think I should aim in GMAT? Is there any other advices; for expamle should I emphasize some parts of my profile in essays?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Thanks for providing so much detail in your application. You should try to aim for a 700 on the GMAT with a split of the 80th percentile in both the verbal and quantitative sections. I would recommend emphasizing your entrepreneurial experience, international experience as well as your civic engagement in your application. And as always, you should demonstrate a history of leadership and accomplishment. If you are able to do that, you will be a competitive applicant for those schools. Good luck!

Sincerely,
