Profile Evaluation

by johnplancon Wed Aug 26, 2009 11:04 pm

Hello,

I have two questions.

First, I scored a 630 on my first try at that GMAT. I belive I can score higher but will not be able to take it again until Feb. Should I go ahead and apply to a top 25 program (probably not top 10)? Or should I wait? Would it be better to be a reapplicant with a higher score? Or a third round applicant?

Second, my wife is currently at Columbia. Does this help, hurt or have no impact on my application?

Hello,

If you think that you can improve your score, I would retake the test and try to do so before February. I would not encourage you to submit an application that is not as strong as it could be and hope to reapply next year. Applying in the third round is very challenging since most of each business school class has been selected. If you are applying to Columbia Business School, the admissions committee might take the fact that your wife is there into consideration, but that fact will not likely have an impact on your application to other schools. My advice to you is to find some time before February to retake the test to improve your GMAT score.

Sincerely,

Akiba Smith-Francis
