Profile Evaluation

by n7t7n Fri Aug 07, 2009 11:45 am

Hi,

I recently took the GMAT - got a 700 V35 M49
English is not my first language. I am from Nepal, but I completed my undergrad in the US.
My undergrad GPA was 3.7
I am working in a top financial firm, doing payments innovations. I have two years of experience here.

I am also in the board of Youth for Nepal, and org that helps education that helps fund education for people with low income background.
I volunteered for streetwise partners, a volunteering org.
I am in the Finnish Business forum, a business networking org based in Helsinki.
I studied abroad in the Netherlands and Slovenia.
I started a handicraft import company in New York, but it failed.

My interest lies in the hydro-energy sector in Nepal. I want to do project finance after i graduate and then create a team of investors for a power project plant in Nepal.

what are my chances for the top 5 b-schools?

thanks

Hello,

Assuming that you are able to demonstrate a history of leadership and accomplishment at work and in your activities outside of work, you seem to be well positioned for a competitive business school. You have good grades from college, a strong GMAT and a history of entrepreneurship. Even though the business failed, you can convey the lessons you learned from that experience. I think that your challenge will be in demonstrating how your career path makes sense, building a bridge between your current interests and experiences, an MBA and your career goal. From what you have written here, it seems as though your career goal may be a bit far afield from your career up to this point. Perhaps there is more of a connection than is apparent from this short description, but I encourage you to make a clear case for it.

I would also focus on making sure that you articulate how each school (specifically) can help you achieve your goals. Good luck!

Sincerely,

Akiba Smith-Francis
