Profile Evaluation

by darren.johnson86 Wed Feb 11, 2009 8:00 pm

Hi,

I am hoping for a profile evaluation, as I am very young but am considering applying to a few schools R3 this spring.

Stats:

780 GMAT (50 quant, 50 verbal)
3.9 GPA at top-3 liberal arts college
2 varsity sports (including team Captain)
Good community service and other extra-curriculars in school

Work:

Only 6 months (13 by next September) as a management consultant, but I work closely with the COO, CFO, and CEO of a $20 billion company.

How severely is only 6 months experience going to hurt me? I am applying to Columbia, Chicago, and Stanford this spring. Is this at all realistic? Any tips for how to make myself a more attractive candidate, other than adding work experience?

Thanks.

Stats like GPA and GMAT only matter up to a certain threshhold. If your GMAT is 700+ and your GPA is 3.5+, then anything beyond that makes a marginal difference at best.

So your stats aside, what do you think will set you apart from other consultants who will have more experience than you, and who will have a similar caliber of extracurriculars to bring to the table -- and also who have already applied and been accepted in Rounds 1 and 2?

If you feel you have something exceptional to bring to the table that more experienced applicants don't have, then you may be competitive (regardless of which round you apply in, but round 3 only makes it worse).

As for how to make yourself a more attractive candidate, the best thing is more work experience, and apply in 1-2 years, not now.
