Aloha,
I would like to apply to the following schools:
HBS, Stanford, UCLA, Berkeley, USC
Main reasons - curriculum, location, reputation.
I am a 32 year old female. Filipino. First to go to college.
Undergrad - University of Washington BA Psychology 3.0 GPA
I am currently the PR director for hospitals for 3 years. Before that, I worked in the Wealth Mgt field in Marketing/Case Design for 6years. Promoted internally and continued to develop the department I was in.
At my current job, I have had to deal with major issues such as a 6.9 earthquake, layoffs, administration turnover. In the meantime, established new events/programs such as MASH Camp for 8th/9th grade students that are interested in health care careers, Hope Event - event dedicated to cancer patients and survivors, Ladies Night Out - informational event for womens health. This is just a portion of my accomplishments. I've also completed a Hawaii Leadership Series, etc.
I have been involved in Rotary - I am the immediate past president of my club, as well as current chair for vocational and club service. We gave out $26,000 in scholarships last year. I am also a 4H group leader. Started the group 2 years ago - now have 9 kids. My 9 year old daughter is very active with soccer, track, karate, etc. so I try to maintain some kind of balance with career and personal life.
I believe my community involvement and leadership qualities are commendable, however, I am the complete opposite in comparison to all the other applicants I see on this forum. I am not analytical - I am creative.
My main goal is to get into a general management school that has multiple focuses - right now, I am seriously contemplating into getting into health care administration. There are so many health care challenges we face, I was hoping I could do something. I would like to eventually get into politics so I can make some changes.
Furthermore, if you hadn't noticed, I live in Hawaii. Moved from Seattle to the big island 3 years ago. That was a risk in itself given the economic conditions we are in. But, did it, and don't regret it because of my diverse experience.
I took the GMAT in April and did poorly - I did self-study and had the wrong materials. Now, I am taking the Accelerated Course in hopes to apply in R2 to these schools. Do you think it is feasible?
I am fairly young (maybe not for MBA standards) but very motivated and am ready to move on with my career. I want to gain the knowledge needed to be a senior executive.
Please help.
Thank you.
