Profile Evaluation

I have 3.0 GPA from Purdue in chemical engineering with minors in math and economics. I have been working as a financial analyst for citi for 1.5 years. I am currently 23 years old. I have owned my highly successful online retail business for 2.5 years. I haven't had much volunteering service mostly since combination or work, school, and home business keeps me up past midnight on most days anyhow. I would really like to get into

Wharton, northwestern, darden, Michigan, NYU, Columbia, or University of Chicago. I know my GPA is a bit low for those schools but I think it is still a possibility. What portion of my application should I work on? volunteering? charity? What Gmat do you think is required to get into these schools?

Here's what you need to do to stand a chance:

(1) Ace the GMAT. With your GPA, you need a 700 or greater to stay in the race. Otherwise you'll have to adopt more orphans than Angelina Jolie.

(2) Enroll in 1 - 3 courses at a local college in stats, calculus, algebra, econ, accounting, or finance -- something quantitative to show that your GPA @ Purdue wasn't due to lack of brains, but lack of effort/discipline. Obviously, ace these courses (get "A"s)

(3) Get involved in extracurriculars only if they are things you're genuinely interested in and activities that are NOT resume builders. Adcoms can smell it a mile away -- especially in an interview. Also, there's no point in getting involved if it's not substantive enough for you to write about it in an essay or talk about it in an interview -- and chances are, it's not going to be substantive enough if it's just a resume builder.

Other than that, you just have to put in your application, and hope for the best.
