Profile Evaluation

Please help me understand my chanced in Business Schools in the vicinity of NY.

I am currently 27 years old. I completed my BSc. and MSc. in IT from India with 3.2 GPA. During my MSc. I worked for 2 years in New Media Marketing followed by another year post MSc in New Media Marketing. Post that i persued another Diploma in Broadcasting Management for an year with 3.5 GPA in order to extend my New Media marketing expeirence into other mediums of communication such as Radio and TV. I worked another year with TAM Media Research (a subsidiary of Neilson Media Research) in India.

I am presently in NJ last year after married and hence for personal reasons want to pursue my MBA (Full time, 2009 batch) in and around NY/NJ. I am currently enrolled for the course with Manhattan GMAT and plan to take GMAT in August. Also, I havent been working in US after marriage. Will that affect my admission in any way.

Please suggest the colleges where you think i should apply and hold a chance of getting through.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Why do you want an MBA? What kinds of jobs are you looking for?

Also, you've narrowed it down to the NY/NJ area - there's only so many MBA programs in this region. You can find out what they are pretty easily -- once you've done that, come back with more specific questions about specific programs.

In the meantime, focus on your GMAT.

RE: Profile Evaluation

Thanks Alex for your response.

I have been doing some research on the subject, and here is what i found
- Columbia (its great for me as it has Media specialization, which is what i really want to pursue)
- NYU - MBA (Marketing Specialization)
- Baruch College - MBA (Marketing Specialization)

I have visited all three of them but not sure after 4 years of experience in industry how much chance I stand in each of them. I want to understand the way American Media works and want to be a part of it. In a long run I want to pursue my dream of being an entrepreneur in this field. I ranked 1st in my diploma in Broadcasting Management from a very reputed university in India (Mudra Institute of Communication or MICA) and my association with Neilson in research and client servicing field has helped me understand that i am in the right field and can excel here.

Please suggest if my background justifies my application for these colleges backed with a good GMAT score. Are there any other colleges that i should consider.

Thanks in advance

By all means go for it. Your chances are zero if you don't apply. If your GMAT score is strong (700+), then it comes down to how well you execute your application (essays, rec letters, interview) and luck.
