Profile Evaluation

by mehta.ankitjpr Wed Oct 02, 2013 3:54 pm

Hi,

Thank you for reviewing my profile. Any advice you have would be much appreciated.

I am 26 yr old from India. I did my B.Tech. in 2010 from IIT BHU with CGPA of (7.24/10 Absolute Scale). I was also the placement coordinator of my college for two years(2008-2010)
Currently I am working in an IT Consulting firm(which was a Start Up when I joined) as a senior consultant. Company is in Business Process Modelling domain and has grown leaps and bounds in last three years. I have been involved in some very decent projects.

I am planning for MBA-2015 batch. As a short term goal I want join a consulting firm. In long run I want to go for entrepreneurship.

I have taken GMAT twice. In 2012 I got a dismal score of 680(31V,50Q,5.5AWA,6IR). I retook the test in Sept 2013 and got 740(38V,51Q,4AWA,6IR). I am really concerned about my AWA score in the latest. Will this have any bearing in admission process. Also, can the decent AWA score of 2012 can offset this one. Kindly advise.

Also,Kindly suggest me some business school matching my profile and goals. Also please note that My budget is not very high and my first preference would be 1 year courses.

Regards,

Ankit

Hi Ankit,

Thanks for your post and congrats on the 740, that is outstanding! Do not stress over the AWA of 4, that is 'average' and AWA is not nearly as important as your overall score, and yes having a higher prior AWA can help that anyway.

In terms of suggesting specific schools, what country/ies are you interested in?? Many European programs offer reputable 1-year MBA degrees, such as Oxford, Cambridge, IMD, IE. Also some top Australian schools. There are a few in the US though 2 year is the standard.

For a 1 year degree especially in the US you really want/need to show that you are pretty set on your post-MBA goals and are not as in need of as much time to prepare for that next step.

Good luck on the process!
