Hi,

Thanks for submitting your profile info. Let's break down your profile:

Academics: very strong undergraduate and graduate GPAs; slightly low GMAT score for most of your target schools.

Professional experience: you've been in a technical role for your whole career thus far. Unfortunately, this puts you at a disadvantage. The reason is simply because the nature of software engineer and Senior SW Engineer roles is that there is typically not as much leadership opportunity as there would be in business functions. I'm sure you'll have some strong leadership stories, but I'm worried that you might not be able to demonstrate the same level of team leadership and degree of responsibility as your business peers.

Extracurriculars and Community: As you noted, this is a bit of a gap in your profile.

I think your school list is a little risky as it stands. If you were to retake the GMAT and score above a 700, it would certainly improve your chances at these schools, but given the other gaps in your profile, I think HBS, GSB, Wharton, Columbia -- these are going to be big reaches. I suggest focusing your efforts on schools like UCLA and NYU. I think for your reach schools you should apply to UCB and MIT given your interest in tech entrepreneurship. For a safety, you could consider USC or Babson.

To answer your last question - I'd say it's more important to apply with the strongest application you can put together than it is to apply in R1.

Hope this helps - good luck!
