Profile Evaluation:

10th: 83% (Pretty Good)
12th: 81.4% (Pretty Good)
Undergraduation: B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering; University Silver Medallist, 1st in my Branch; 3.59/4 (91.8% conversion)
I have an Aerospace background and my Work Ex will be 3 years in June 2013.(Excellent)

Work Ex: I am working in United Technologies Corporation (UTC) as Manufacturing Engineer for Evacuation Systems Division for the Airbus A380 Program. Currently working in Bangalore. I did go offshore for 10 odd days to Phoenix, Arizona for a project. (In Terms of Reputation, excellent)

GMAT: 610 (V:25, Q:49, AWA: 5.5) (Average :| )

Extracurricular activity : District Level Badminton Player; Participated in State level & National level Qualifiers as well.
Currently head of the badminton committee (Sports) of my company. I have been representing my company at the corporate level in Badminton for 2 years now and still counting.

I play daily for 1 hour due to my passion for the game.

I want your insight as in what all colleges would accept my profile and i would have chances of getting into them this year itself.

I have shortlisted below colleges. Can you suggest some other colleges also:

1) ISB (Dream) - Very less chance, i know
2) NUS (Dream) - Very Tough
3) NTU (Dream) - Very Tough again
4) Smeal
5) Thunderbird
6) Babson: Olin
7) Texas A& M Mays
8) SMU: Cox
9) Pittsburg: Katz

I am not looking at the top 40 colleges as i know that my GMAT wont get me through. My Aim is to get into colleges ranked between 40-75 in the world. Are there any colleges which are better than the last 6 ones to whom should i apply?

I am currently not putting up with UK colleges due to the present condition of the Visa status over there.

I talked with many people. Many have said that instead of applying to Colleges with Median GMAT of 610, Apply to Colleges with Median GMAT of 640-650 as i have a unique profile. Dunno how true that is !!

Waiting for ur reply.
Thank you.

Hi Rahul,

In the future, please post your profile only once to the forum :) Thanks!

I'm glad you are being realistic about your prospects given your GMAT score. Your work experience is interesting, but you do fall into that Indian Male Engineer category (though being aerospace/mechanical engineer is somewhat unique). In terms of extracurricular, badminton is good, but it's not going to be enough to really make you stand out from the pile. All in all, I think you're targeting the right tier of programs.

You could try for schools like Georgetown, University of Washington, etc. I think you could target schools that list a 620-640 Median or Average score -- remember that is just the midpoint/average of their class. It means that many students scored lower than the median/average posted. You can also keep a couple schools in the lower ranges as possible 'safety' options.

As for specific programs to target - you're going to have to decide based on your own criteria/fit. Hopefully I've given you a sense of the tier of schools to aim for.

Hope this helps,
Mili

Thanks a lot Mili for the update.

With respect to the last 5 schools i have listed, are they really good?

I mean they should be as they are in the FT & The economist rankings........But i have my doubts........

Also i checked ur options: Georgetown & Washington. Their median gmat score is around 680-690...Way above my score.......dunno whether i should go ahead with them??

Please help me out here...

Thanks a lot.

Regards,
Rahul

Hi Rahul,

The schools on your list from Smeal down are not considered 'top programs' and therefore I wouldn't categorize them as "really good", but within the range you are looking at they are certainly respectable. Babson is especially well recognized and a strong program for those wishing to pursue entrepreneurial careers.

When I mentioned Georgetown and Washington, I suggested these are potentially potential reach schools (versus ISB, NUS, etc.).

Good luck,
Mili
