Profile Evaluation

by brathee Thu Dec 15, 2011 7:57 am

Hi,

Would really appreciate if you could evaluate my profile and suggest some good MBA schools I could target:

GMAT: 740 (Q 49, V 42)
Experience: 3 years 6 months in development consulting (public reforms, health and nutrition, infrastructure etc)
Education: MA Economics, Economics Hons. (India)
Nationality: Indian
Female
ECA: Have been involved in a lot of EC activities in school, Post Graduation and have won a couple of awards at work too...(Dramatics, Sports, Debates, Team contests, Creative competitions etc.)...

Really confused as to:
1) Which schools to target (NUS, Wharton, Kellogg, INSEAD, LBS, Oxford..)
2) When to apply (most of the deadlines are end Jan 2012 and I am looking at scholarships)... Have limited time
3) For how long is my GMAT valid- Even though it is officially valid for 5 years, I believe most B Schools do not consider more than 2 years.
4) Does it make sense to wait for another year and apply next year (Round 1) for batch starting 2013?

Thank you so much.

Hi! It is difficult for me to tell you which schools to target, because so much of school selection is based on personal preferences. Given your strong GMAT score, you look to be a competitive candidate, but keep in mind that you also have to present strong accomplishments through your work experience and activities to round out your application.

As for how long the GMAT score stands, it is my understanding that it stands for 5 years. If you have heard differently, consider calling each school to confirm.

As for when to apply, you should apply when you think you can present the strongest application.

Best of luck,
Rachel Beck
