Profile Evaluation

Hi! I am aiming for the top 15 universities in US for MBA or MS in HR.

Academic Background -
currently studying final year BBA(3 year degree) in India
-CGPA- 3.91
-was awarded the TF-NTU Learn Scholarship ( study abroad at nanyang business school for 1 sem ) the program stands for Leadership enrichment and regional networking.
-strong academic record throughout school

Work Experience -
-no full time work ex (applying as college graduate)
-Summer Internships
1. Corporate internship 2 months
2. NGO internship 2 months
-volunteer with Teach for India for 2 years
- conduct indian classical dance classes as hobby

Extra Curricular Activities -
- Trained professional Bharatnatyam(indian classical dance) performed in singapore and was invited to perform in germany
- Founder and coordinator of counselling cell at home university
- Headed major events in University ( hod of guest relations dept etc)
- certificate course in interior design
- many other diploma courses as part of hobby

GMAT first attempt : 670
math : 49
verbal : 32

My top 5 choice of universities is
1. Harvard 2+2
2. Yale ( Silver Scholars Program)
3. London Business School ( Masters in Management)
4. Purdue Krannert ( MS in HRM)
5. Duke (MBA)

Could you advise me if retaking GMAT is likely to help boost my profile?
How much disadvantage am i at without work ex? and will a higher GMAT help to compensate for no work ex?

Hi Nishi27,

Thanks for writing in. HBS 2+2 and Yale Silver Scholars are meant for students without work experience so obviously your lack of full-time experience would not hurt you there. I know with 2+2 at least, the focus is on engineering students, so just keep that in mind.

I am not familiar with the programs you listed at LBS/Purdue, but I know at Duke MBA they're still going to be looking for some work experience from applicants. While the standard minimum is two years, if you want to apply now you'll need to make a strong statement as to why you would benefit more now going directly to an MBA program, rather than working for two years and applying then. A higher GMAT score could help you with your case to show that you are academically prepared for MBA-level work.
