Profile Evaluation

by vishalsri1 Fri May 06, 2011 12:51 am

Hello Daniel,

Hope this note of mine is finding you at a right time.

From your expertize,I would like to know as to whether admission committee would consider me as a suitable and ideal candidate for their MBA Program?

By profession, I am an IT professional who has worked with company like IBM etc for the past 7 years. From a trainee to a software professional and now to a team leader, I have attained some level in the professional world which has been backed up by Oracle certifications and Engineering degree.

But to be frank, my real interest lies in Banking and Finance.I have a natural flair for numbers and easily grasp the fundamentals of finance rather than database management. To make matter a little more complicated I have around 50% to show in B.Com quite contrary to a 68% in Engineering but if you ask me in which field I am interest Finance would be way way ahead.

Considering my experience is in IT and academic results are far better in IT than in Management is this factor considered by the admission committee or is it the GMAT score which counts?

More so on a personal front I would like to know how I can project myself as the most suitable candidate considering the above scenario.

I would be really thankful to you if you guide me through in way in which I can accomplish my this 10 year long cherished dream !

Regards
Vishal

Hi Vishal,

Thanks for writing in. The admissions committee will certainly look at your academic performance, but you have the GMAT as an opportunity to show you have strong quantitative skills as well, which would be applicable to Finance.

I think two pieces of advice come to mind for you:

1) Given you come from a heavily-represented group, differentiation is key. What is it about your experience and goals that set you apart from the other IT candidates?

2) What is your "story?" Why is an MBA necessary to help reach your goals. This is a very important piece that people often overlook.

Best of luck,

Daniel Richards
