Profile Evaluation

by samarth.jog Sun Oct 24, 2010 8:34 am

I would like to know where should I apply and how competitive is the profile.
GMAT: 700, AWA 4.5
CGPA:8.5/10-- among top 5 in the class of 80 students (from a TOP 5 institute in India)
nationality: Indian
Male
Applying for: Fall 2011
Age: 24
Exp: 4 yr (yes..thats true taking my age into consideration)
1yr: Embedded solutions domain, got merit promotion in first 6 months. Several contributions in development projects, managed knowledge transfers for new employees and organized testing and development team for efficient delivery to clients. Hosted many clients demo sessions.
6 months: Oil and Gas industry, MNC. Worked on several cost reducing management projects(saving upto $8M for the company).
2.5 yr: Founded an IT company with a flagship internet product(more than 30K users in just 6months). Created a strong management team through partnership, recruited a development team of 8 professional engineers and 10 other resources. Bootstraped for first year, generated angel funds and finally managed to make it self sustainable. In talks with big internet firms for exit through sale.
EC: Co-founded an NGO that helps in fund raising for orphanages in Delhi areas. Got few leadership references of other activities during my undergraduates.
Post MBA: Technology/Energy Entrepreneurship, VC ecosystem, consultancy
Target School (in order)
Stanford (Dream School)
Ross (Backup)
INSEAD (UK though less preferable)
ISB (nothing beats its ROI)
Let me guide other schools I should focus on given my post MBA
goals. Please let me know how competitive is my profile for all these given a not bad-not good GMAT score

Hi Samarth,

It seems like you have some great experience in just a few short years and you will want to emphasize your unique work with your startup and the NGO to help differentiate yourself.

You also have a realistic list from what you've shared. You have an interesting case for Stanford given its Silicon Valley connections, but your GMAT would need to be a bit higher to in order for me to say with confidence that you'd be competitive.

And with Ross, I'd say you are likely competitive but would not go so far as to call it a "backup," as their selection process is still rigorous. With INSEAD you'd need to make a good case as to why you want to study in an international-focused program, as well as why an accelerated MBA makes sense for your goals.

I'm not familiar enough with ISB to comment. Other schools you may want to consider are NYU Stern and Haas.

Best of luck!
