Profile Evaluation

by heyabhi Mon Aug 23, 2010 12:27 am

Hi,

Can any one evaluate my profile ? Following are the details:
Gmat -640 ( 2 Attempt)-Q45 V33- AWA 5
Masters in EE - 3.5/4 (US)
Bachelors in EE-3.4/4(India)

I am working for a non profit organization which is responsible for operating the California Electric grid in a reliable & most cost efficient manner. For the latter role the organization opened up the 3rd electricity market in US in April 2009. The market does have a lot of liquidity & several big banks participate in the market trading activities. I will have around 6 years of work ex next Fall.

I was involved in lots of extra curricular activities in my undergrad. Organizing secretary for annual college festival.

-Target Schools-Berkeley EWMBA,Johnson Accelerated MBA,HKUST Accelerated MBA,INSEAD ( Am probably dreaming :) ) & IMD.

I am counting on my unique work experience to give me an edge over other candidates. My GMAT score is way below average for most of the schools. What do the experts think ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi HeyAbhi,

Thanks for writing in. Your experience with the energy nonprofit is unique but you will need to show other strengths as well in order to be competitive at the schools you are targeting. Unfortunately your college extracurriculars are unlikely to hold much weight with the admissions committee since you will have been six years removed from college; they want to know how you have been active in the community since joining the workforce.

Given the level of school you listed, you may want to look into taking a practice GMAT or two to see if a higher score is possible, otherwise you will likely be at a competitive disadvantage.

Best of luck,

Daniel Richards
