Profile Evaluation Requested

by hi2dream27 Thu Jan 13, 2011 1:11 am

Hi,

I gave my GMAT yesterday for the first time and received a score of 690 (Q50, V34). SC screwed me up big time and am really disaapointed.

Now i am in a quadandry whether to apply to the B-Schools or give GMAT again. My Target Schools would comprises of the good B-Schools which offer 1 year MBA such as INSEAD,IE Spain,LBS etc.

Would need your input in terms of how should i take it forward.

I am an Indian Male working in Dubai,UAE since last 3 years and am having a total work experience of 6 Years. Presently i am working in a Global No 1 Market Research company and heading the business of a department for UAE.Previous to this i had worked for 1 and a half year in India in a Retail company, again the No 1 company of India and for another 1 and a half year in a Manaufacturing company which is Asia's No 1 Food company.Part time i had also worked for an NGO which works in Microfinance Sector for free as i love to work for downtrodden and poor people although because of financial reasons i cannot work full time, and i am having lot of exposure in terms of rural segment

In terms of my educational Backgroung i had already done an MBA in India from a Premier Sectoral College IRMA( Institute of Rural Mangement).Previous to that i had done graduation in Electrical Engineering from a average sort of college with 66% marks but i was among the top 5 students of the college as we have a very hard grading pattern.

In terms of extracirricular activities i am National level Table tennis player and have lot of merit certificate for academic appreciation in my school days. I had also worked as event manger because its my hobby and have organsied seminars and events in college and school days.

So based on above profile i would request for your feedback in terms of whether i should target for better score OR i should work on the Essay question and my application profile.

Thanks

Hi hi2dream,

Given that your only 10 points below the average GMAT for both INSEAD and LBS, I think you can still go ahead and apply with your current score. Your work experience seems diverse and potentially a good source of differentiation. I would also make sure to address why you are seeking another MBA after getting the Indian MBA -- what do these programs offer that you can't achieve with your current credentials?

Good luck!
Best of luck,

Daniel Richards
