Profile Evaluation Request

by patrickjones3186 Thu Feb 24, 2011 2:32 pm

Hi,

I've recently given GMAT. The scores are as follows:

1. Overall GMAT Score - 730
2. Q-50
3. V-38

I'm interested in pursuing MBA (in IT Management and Operations) at one of the following b-schools : ISB, INSEAD and HKUST.

I hold a graduation degree in Mining Machinery from Indian School of Mines University. I've had a few training and on-field experiences in Mining Industry during my under-graduation course.
GPA : 7.2/10

Since graduation, I've been working for a IT-Banking Consultancy Company (Tata Consultancy Services) for the past 4 years as a Assistant Systems Engineer. I'm planning for a career in IT Management (Product and Services Development).

I've mentored few associates during my job and performed brief leadership roles, albeit at a relatively lower level of my organization's hierarchy.

I had been active in sports in my school. However, I've not participated in sports thereafter.

My profile is rather academic centric, but I've a strong inclination towards performing managerial roles.

Please evaluate my profile and let me know the areas I've to focus on to get into the b-schools I've mentioned.

Thanks a lot in Advance,
Anil

Hi Anil,

Thanks for writing in. Since you have strong GMATs and managerial experience (make sure this part comes clear in your essays!), I think the key for you will be differentiating yourself from that overrepresented male Indian IT cohort. You can use your essays to explain why your goals or background are different from what the admissions office might see in your peers, and explain why these programs specifically are such a good fit for you. I think your focus on managerial roles could also be a good pillar to your story, as it shows a desire to be a people leader.

Good luck!
