Profile Evaluation Request -GMAT 690 (QA 47 Verbal 37 AWA 5)

by AkramY76 Sun Aug 17, 2014 3:19 am

Hi Everyone -

I have been one of the dormant members of the MGMAT Club. I had my GMAT done last week with a score of 690 - Q 47 V 37 and AWA 5. I would like to request any of the experts to help review my profile.

Xth 2004 - 85%
XII 2006 - 97%
Electrical Engineering (University College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad) 2010 : 88%

Work Experience : 4 Years 2 Months Work Experience (Till date). Will have 5 years experience when I join the school next year - ERS (Enterprise Risk Services) Senior Consultant in Deloitte Risk Analytics team providing compliance (Audit - both External and Internal) and advisory analytics solutions to a plethora of Fortune-500 US based clients.

Extra Curricular : Avid Writer, Editor of the college Newsletter, Part of a local Journalist group team within Deloitte

Post MBA Target career : Marry the analytics core concepts (Information Management, Performance Optimization and Analytics Insights) with the much needed business acumen/concepts to work with clients in an advisory/consulting environment to solve some of the pressing business problems. A School that can equip me with the skills needed for such a career path is my target school. Please advise.

Tatget B Schools - ISB (Indian School of Business), Rotman (Canada), NUS Singapore, Tepper(US), Ross(US), Duke (US - might be a stretch, but please advise)

I look forward to hearing from the experts!

Cheers
Akram

Hi Akram,

Thanks for posting, welcome! It sounds like you have some strong analytical work experience at Deloitte, coupled with strong academics and the interesting addition of strong writing skills and experiences (evidence of strong communication skills and another dimension to your profile). With the 690 coupled with your profile, likely ISB is the biggest stretch and the others won't be easy at all but are a bit more on-par. A lot depends upon the entire application and how it all comes together-- your resume; evidence of leadership; accomplishments; essays; explanation of who you are and why the MBA; recommendations; interview etc. Be sure to focus a lot of time and effort on the essays and components of the application you can still influence. Let us know how we can help and good luck!

Thanks a lot for your response,

Please advise if I should consider re-writing GMAT - or focus on putting the application. I am guessing based on your eval, my chances at any of the schools I mentioned do not look strong.

Hi there-- I actually think you could have a shot/be considered presently at most on the list with great applications; with ISB being tougher given their average GMAT. If you are open to giving the GMAT another shot and have the time/energy to re-take, then I'd support that as a higher score would help your chances too. Good luck!
