Profile Evaluation Please

by txprospect Tue Oct 07, 2008 9:47 am

I wanted to get an opinion on my profile. I am targeting HBS, Tuck, Chicago, and UT Austin.

I am finishing a GMAT review course. Let's just assume I am able to get a 700, which is my target.

Education:
BS Civil Engineering - 3.4 overall, 3.56 in major. Leadership positions in student organizations, led community service events and received multiple scholarships.
MS Engineering, UT Austin - 3.9 GPA, received fellowship and scholarship

Work Experience:
5 years of engineering experience with track record of promotion and leadership. Currently a project manager.

Very involved in professional organizations with multiple leadership positions.

Age: 29

I would appreciate any thoughts!

Thank you for your post.

On a very basic level, you seem like a good candidate for a top-10 school - strong grades, solid GMAT (expected), professional progress, dedication to professional organizations. Unfortunately, I don’t really have the color behind your profile. Can you tell me more about your work? Can you tell me more about your involvement with your professional organization?

Sincerely,
Jeremy Shinewald

I work as a project manager for a national civil engineering consultant, focusing on public water and wastewater infrastructure projects. I typically manage around $10M worth of projects per year (construction cost). I typically supervise 2 to 3 people on my team. I started as an analyst with this firm and progressed to PM in 4 years. My clients are typically Public Works Directors, Directors of Utilities, and City Engineers. I have client management responsibility for three mid-size clients.

I am very involved with one professional association, and am a member of others. With the one I am involved with, I have chaired a state-wide young professionals committee for four years, and was recently selected to be on the national YP committee. On the state committee, I started new initiatives such as a career fair and leadership seminar and increased membership. I am the vice chair of a national technical committee. Through that committee, I have organized two workshops and participated in a national webcast. I have also written articles in the prominent industry journal and newsletters. I'm also involved with the local chapter.

Hope that helps.
