profile evaluation please

by YoungC893 Thu Aug 21, 2014 4:13 pm

My first Gmat yesterday after two months of studying...
710 92% (50Q 88%, 36V 81%, 8IR)
I am debating whether I should retake or not. The lowest verbal score I got from practice tests was 38..I had trouble pacing myself yesterday..I feel I could have done better. Need your opinion!

1) Korean American female (U.S. citizen yes, but I have lived most of my life in Korea then came back a few years ago. I wouldn't say English is my first language)
2) - BA 3.86 gpa (4.3 converted to 4.0 scale) in Philosophy from Seoul National University (#1 school), graduated summa cum laude
- MFA in film producing, Columbia University (P/F grading)
3) worked 1.5 years for Korea's top advertising agency (owned by Samsung) as an account executive, currently working for one of the Hollywood major studios (New York office), almost three years
4) currently participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters New York, produced many short films in the past (for my thesis, I worked with a prominent actress)
5) post mba goal - hoping to start my own business where I can reinvent the way films/entertainment contents get financed..the main reason I decided to pursue MBA is because I want to develop entrepreneurial skills to complement my creative side

aiming for fall 2015 entry, shooting for Columbia (ED), NYU and UCLA...It's either NY or LA for me since I want to be where all the actions are happening..Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

Thanks for posting and sharing your profile. You have a lot going for you, namely:

-less-common profile and industry; can help you stand out and you would have a unique perspective amongst the class
-excellent academics including masters at Columbia
-awesome quant score on the GMAT-- important for b-school! Solid overall score
-international experiences
-volunteering experience
-schools are looking for qualified female applicants

In my view it won't be the 710 that will keep you 'out' of b-school... if they really like your application and profile etc, they would accept you-- you're right at or near the school averages. The essays will be a great place to highlight all that you can offer to a program... be sure to work hard on those and I am hopeful for you. Keep us posted on how we can help, and good luck!
