profile evaluation please

by wind Fri Jan 04, 2013 8:17 am

Hello and happy new year for every body.

I live at Montreal and I intend to apply in March 2013 for MBA at the Desautels of McGill as plan A and HEC Montreal as plan B ,my plan C is to apply for Concordia University in June 2013 , All of them to start Fall Semester 2013 .I have a university GPA of 2.8 in addition to an approximate working experience f 7 years 1.5 of which as a pharmacist and the rest in a multinational pharmaceutical company as a sales rep then in Training and Development as well as several career - related certifications and workshops I took as a part of my job.Knowing that I scheduled my GMAT to be on the 3rd of Feb.2013,how do you see my opportunities for these schools ??and what is the minimum GMAT score I need to achieve? I have checked your website for any insiders for Canadian Business Schools but unfortunately I could not find .

Thank you and best regards.

Hello there!

Sorry we don't have more resources online about Canadian programs! Our president is actually Canadian and has a wealth of knowledge - maybe I'll ask him to document it :)

I would say you should aim for a 700+ GMAT score to help balance your low GPA. Your professional experience sounds decent, but it doesn't seem like you have much in the way of ECs and community work. I also don't see a whole lot of leadership in your profile. All this, coupled with the low GPA might make McGill a reach. I'd still encourage you to apply though. The others should be good targets/safer options.

Best of luck,
Mili

Thank you so much .In fact , I am not so much into ECs and community work but I am an active blogger and I have participated in several literary competitions winning prizes in some of them in addition to obtaining a professional certificate in written translation .Concerning leadership ,I received 2 promotions throughout my 5 year career in the multinational company and I can document these as well as my sales success stories, and the 2 post grad diplomas I have, one of which in the field of industrial pharmacy . If I hopefully succeed in achieving a 700+ score how do you see my opportunities in light of this overall profile ?

Thanks a million in advance .:)

Hi,

I'm not sure that the blogging is going to be seen as leadership, but I would include it in your resume in personal interests/hobbies, along with the literary prizes. Career wise, the promotions are good, and the sales story sounds interesting. I'm still not seeing a lot of leadership, but like I said, it's worth a shot and it's all about how you position your story.

Good luck with the GMAT!
