Profile Evaluation Please

by happyduck Fri Aug 19, 2011 7:20 pm

Hi ,

I would appreciate any insight you could provide on my profile.

Profile: White woman, 27 years old

GMAT: 710 (92 percentile) (Q42 - 59 percentile) (V45 - 99 percentile)

College: Dartmouth College, 3.7 GPA

Work: small market research consulting firm - first 2 years out of
college. past 2 years and currently, work in non-profit hospital
fundraising - manage online giving, conduct wealth analysis, manage physician appeals for specific projects, introduce more data-oriented practices to entire department (annual giving, major giving, events, communications)

Post-MBA goal: work in healthcare administration, for a non-profit
hospital or healthcare organization

Target Schools: (applying fall 2011, first round)
Columbia (early decision)
Tuck
HBS
Stern

Questions:
1) General feedback
2) Given quant / verbal discrepency, should I retake GMAT? I did
extensive preparation and rarely exceeded 60-something percentile in math.
3) Thoughts on chances at 4 target schools.

Thanks in advance!

Hi happyduck,

Thanks for writing in. In response to your questions:

1) The one point I have that won't be covered in the other questions is to recognize that health care is a growing field in MBA programs and many schools offer specific health curriculum, clubs, classes, etc. Do the extra research to position yourself as a health care candidate, and thus provide differentiation.

2) If you think you think additional prep is unlikely to have an impact on your score, than you may have maxed our your Quant score and your time would be better spent on your application at this point. You may want to consider taking an online/local college Quant course or two to show you are motivated to address this weakness.

3) I would rate HBS as a reach, Columbia/Tuck on the cusp of competitive/near-reach, and Stern as competitive.

Best of luck,

Daniel Richards
