Profile evaluation - please

by valle.murilo Thu Feb 24, 2011 9:55 am

Hi,

I would like to know what are my chances of getting into LBS in R3. I have a rather low GPA (although I went to a top-tier university), and that's my main concern.

Male, 26 years-old.

GMAT Score 760 Q49 V44
University of Campinas, Brazil (ranked number 2 in Latin America, according to THES) Electrical Engineering
Undergraduate average score : 65/100

Work Experience of 3.5 years in a boutique Management Consultancy. Promoted to Associate in 2010.

Strong international experience: project leader in 6 South American countries for 7 months and project member in 4 European countries for 5 months.

Sponsored by employer.

Reccomended by Consultancy's managing partner and Pepsi South America Sales Director (client).

Some (but no vast) extra-curricular activities in college and also some experience in family's small venture.

Do you think I have good chances?

Hi Valle,

Thanks for writing in. Your GMAT is obviously quite strong and your work experience could make for some interesting essay stories. Although I am not sure how the the grading system you listed translates to the traditional GPA, R3 applications often have to be near-perfect to make it to that final cut, so that may hurt you.

I have a feeling that your "story" will be critical -- do you clearly explain why you are seeking an MBA and why it's important to get it now, rather than wait until R1 next year? Do you address your GPA and explain why it shouldn't be a factor? Normally I would call you competitive for LBS, but I can't make that specific claim for R3 since I have no inside information on how their class is shaping up so far.

Best of luck!
